A report from the Hindu Business Line indicates that Saudi Arabia could be in line to host IPL games, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and STA examining the possibility.
“For us, it’s an exciting prospect that Saudi Tourism Authority has immense faith in the power of IPL to bring countries together,” said Jay Shah, secretary of BCCI.
“We believe that the partnership will help promote Saudi’s unique and diverse offering and position it as the leading leisure and tourism destination in the world. This partnership will create newer opportunities for cricket in Saudi and strengthen the sport in the region.”
“IPL is the right platform to connect us with billions of [cricket] fans worldwide,” added Alhasan Aldabbagh, the STA’s APAC president, who revealed that talks with the BCCI had taken place already on how to extend the partnership beyond the IPL.
“This is a unique, first of its kind partnership with IPL. We host multiple sporting events, including Formula One, Formula E, WWE and the Spanish Super Cup. There are more events coming in the pipeline.”
